It’s your road and yours alone. Others may walk it with you, but no one can walk it for you.

Day 9 Golinhac to Conques

Day 9  13.04. 22 Golinhac to Conques. 21 km. Quite warm. A bit shorter today but tough as usual. The last few km downhill did not help the knees...

Back in Conques! Something like 8-10 years ago, Tore and I visited friends in Aveyron. We rented a car and by accident came to Conques. It is classified in the category " one of the most beautiful village in France". It was extremely warm in the middle of July and we saw all the compostella pilgrims arriving. I was very jealous an I promised myself that I will walk in Conques and in Rocamadour as a pilgrim one day. Now it is done... Rocamadour left in a week or so...

And it is... not many people live in Conques but it is a very important stop for the pilgrims on the way to Compostella. The abbey of Conques is a jewel. A community of Benedictine monks take care of the pilgrims. The pilgrim hostel in Conques is big, it can host 90 pilgrims at the time in dormatories.

 Picture of the pilgrim hostel.

We chose a small hotel instead,

And we visited the small town. Fantastic buildings, it feels like living in another century, especially as the tourist season as not started yet.

Here are some pictures from Conques:

At 18h 30, a benedictin presented the most celebrated front part of church.

Our fellow pilgrims went to the pilgrim mass at 20h30 but we were again totally exhausted that day. So we are not blessed for the rest of the trip but I guess we"ll manage without.
