DAY 18 BILBAO / PORTUGALETE

20 km cold, raining a bit, windy and terribly boring landscape. It took 4 hours to reach. Flat as a pancake.

I left Bilbao behind me for today (I am going back tomorrow to meet my friend). The way to Portugalete is boring and quite dangerous. It is quite a contrast between all these old industry building falling into pieces and the glamour of the guggenheim museum. The all town has been refurbished actually. 

When I asked the guy at the tourist office for the way to Portugalete, he showed me the metro sign and told me that it was quicker, easier to get there by Metro and there was nothing to see on the way to Portugalete. SO TRUE. But as a pilgrim, I had to walk to Portugalete at least once. 

The most interesting feature of Portugalete is the transporter bridge (see the picture). On UNESCO list. The oldest working tranporter bridge of that model (Vizcaya bridge is the name) very much fun taking it. 

Quite interesting little town. No gastronomy price here either. Hardly a restaurant to speak of (I must have been a real bad person in my last life). I found anyway a fruit shop. My dinner: 4 bananas and some nuts. At least it is healthy if nothing else.

20km , pluie, route ennuyeuse, même carrément dangereuse à certains endroits. 4 h pour arriver. Plat.

Ma route jusqu'à Portugalete est ennuyeuse et même dangereuse. En fait j'aurais dû prendre la route de compostelle mais la route le long de la rivière suggérée par l'office du tourisme me paraissait plus intéressante. Erreur!!! J'ai rencontré en route une pèlerine écossaise .  Nous avons fait un bout de chemin ensemble et discuté le Brexit. 

Le long de la route, industries abandonnées et du mal être. Une grosse différence entre ça et le guggenheim ou me reste de la ville en fait.

A part ça  Portugalete, assez mignon. Le plus important est le pont transporteur. Le plus vieux pont transporteur en action au monde. Sur la lite de l' UNESCO. J' ai trouvé génial. 

A part ça J' attends mon amie Marie - Noëlle. Il n' aura pas de blogg pour un ou deux jours
